US: New York Senate Reviews a Bill to Establish State Cryptocurrency Task Force

On February 2, 2018, Assembly member Clyde Vanel introduced Assembly Bill A9685 to establish a task force to study the impact of a state-issued cryptocurrency on the state of New York.

According to the bill, "cryptocurrency" means "a digital currency in which encryption techniques are used to regulate the generation of units and currency and verify the transfer of funds, operating independently from a central bank".
