UK: FCA Consults on Guidance on Crypto-Assets and the Existing Regulatory Remit

On January 23, 2019, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) launched a ten-week consultation seeking feedback on its proposed crypto-assets guidance. The consultation paper comes as a response to the report issued by the crypto-assets taskforce released in October 2018, and delivers the regulator’s first commitment thereunder — to provide greater clarity to market participants about which crypto-asset related activities fall under its current regulatory remit and, therefore, authorisation must be sought.
