Sweden: Financial Supervisory Authority and Central Bank Issue Opinions on Interim Report on Safe Access to Cash

On October 22, 2018, the Financial Supervisory Authority (Finansinspektionen), in support of the Riksbank's committee initiative to draft an interim report on secure access to cash, issued its opinion on the matter.

In the interim report, the central bank committee clarifies which general and private actors are deemed to be responsible for providing cash services, what the sufficient level of such provision is and how it can be ensured that each of these actors contributes appropriately. The committee places the responsibility of determining this on four Swedish banks and two Swedish branches of foreign credit institutions.
