With a sophisticated payments industry and a regulatory framework that has been adapted to digital developments, including tighter coordination between the financial services and digital communications regulators, Singapore is well positioned to become a cashless society. Aided by its small size, Singapore is able to maximise the efficiency, coverage and speed at a relatively affordable cost compared with the costs that would be incurred in developing a similar infrastructure in much bigger areas.
