New Zealand: Reserve Bank Publishes Article on Forms of Digital Currency

On April 18, 2018, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand published in its bulletin an article titled “What is digital currency?”, outlining and explaining the various forms of digital currencies, in light of the rapid and continuous advances in financial technology.

The article uses a money tree classification to describe in a clear manner the different forms of digital currency. The classification is based on the underlying technology used in each case and on whether these digital currencies can be traded for cash at par value.
