Malta: Financial Intelligence Unit Consults on AML/CTF Regulation

The Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit (FIAU) of Malta is consulting on the revised version of the Prevention of Money Laundering and Funding of Terrorism Regulations (PMLFTR) 2017. The amendments seek to transpose provisions of the 4th Anti-Money Laundering Directive (4th AMLD) into Maltese law.

The draft proposal includes the following changes:

  • The threshold for payments in cash will be revised downwards from €15,000 to €10,000.
  • Two additional activities will be included under the definition of “relevant financial business”:

"(k) safe custody services provided by any person or institution not covered under paragraph (a) or (f);
