Malaysia: Central Bank Issues 2018 Financial Stability and Payment Systems Report

On March 27, 2019, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) published the Financial Stability and Payment Systems Report for 2018, which details the central bank's assessment of the risks and challenges faced by the country's financial system and the developments that the bank has been focusing on to ensure financial stability and to enhance economic growth.

According to the report, Malaysia has improved its compliance ratings with regard to its anti-money laundering/counter-terrorism financing (AML/CTF) framework as assessed by the Financial Action Task Force, and the National AML/CTF Strategic Plan will be reviewed in 2019 to address gaps and vulnerabilities and provide improvements to the existing legal and regulatory frameworks in Malaysia.
