Isle of Man: Data Protection Act 2018 Comes into Force

On May 15, 2018, the Data Protection Act 2018 of the Isle of Man entered into force under the order of the Council of Ministers. The act aims to enhance the protection of personal data and to regulate personal data control and processing.

Under the act, the Council of Ministers may apply any EU instrument concerning data protection to the law of the island. It may also take steps to ensure the implementation of any EU obligation that the island has concerning personal data protection.

The new data protection law comprises several instruments, including the Data Protection Act 2018, the Data Protection (Application of the GDPR) Order 2018 and the Data Protection (Application of the LED) Order 2018.
