France: Financial Markets Authority Consults on ICOs

On October 26, 2017 the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF), the French financial markets authority, published a consultation on initial coin offerings (ICOs).

ICOs have recently become increasingly popular across the globe. An ICO is a fundraising operation used on distributed ledger technology (DLT) which results in the issuance of tokens which can be acquired by investors in a particular project.

The AMF states that due to the innovative and disruptive nature of this technology, and the rapid growth of the blockchain ecosystem, it wants to understand more the phenomenon of ICOs and the practical consequences by adopting a global approach.
