EMVCo Updates EMV 3-D Secure Specification

On December 14, 2018, EMVCo, in line with its vision to facilitate worldwide interoperability and acceptance of secure payment transactions, released an updated version of the EMV® 3-D Secure (3DS) protocol and core functions specification, which builds upon and optimises the current specification version 2.1.0.
The changes made aim to ensure a smoother customer experience by promoting new authentication channels to enable frictionless e-commerce transactions. The changes are expected to benefit both merchants and consumers.
The key new features introduced by the EMV 3DS specification version 2.2.0 are:
