EBA Issues Update on Identification of Global Systemically Important Institutions

On August 11, 2017 the European Banking Authority (EBA) published 12 indicators and underlying data from the 35 largest institutions in the EU, whose leverage ratio exposure measure exceeds €200bn.

The Regulatory and Implementing Technical Standards and the Guidelines on disclosure of global systemically important institutions (G-SIIs) have been developed in accordance with internationally agreed standards and Directive 2013/36/EU (Capital Requirements Directive - CRD IV).

The number of banks with a leverage ratio exposure measure exceeding €200bn in 2015 was 36 and three have changed in the sample. Following the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision's and the Financial Stability Board's final assessments, a smaller subset of banks will be considered as G-SIIs.
