Czech Republic: Government Consults on Data Protection Bill

The Ministry of the Interior has published the draft law on the processing of personal data and the accompanying law, which is to replace the existing law on the protection of personal data.

This new regulatory framework will implement the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Directive 2016/680 of the European Parliament on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data by the competent authorities for the purposes of the prevention, investigation, detection or prosecution of criminal offenses or the enforcement of penalties and Directive 2016/681 on the use of passenger name record (PNR) data for the prevention, detection, investigation and prosecution of terrorist offences and serious crime.
