On November 16, 2017, the Belgian parliament passed a bill to establish a new Data Protection Authority, in line with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Currently, the Data Protection Authority, the Commission for the Protection of Privacy ("Commission pour la protection de la vie privée"), can only propose opinions and recommendations.
