Australia: New Payments Platform Releases Version 2.0 of API Framework

On May 22, 2019, the New Payments Platform (NPP) published Version 2.0 of the NPP API Framework, which was initially launched in September 2018.

The purpose of the document is to provide guidance relevant to the design of application programming interfaces (APIs) in the context of NPP. The framework is designed to support NPP participants’ open NPP APIs and partner-based NPP APIs, and to enable third-party service providers (TPPs) and software developers to design NPP payment services. The framework also aims to encourage innovation by setting minimum standards for the benefit of TPPs and software developers, which would not be required to build multiple customised APIs for each NPP participant and overlay service product.
