Australia: Government Consults on Draft Privacy Impact Assessment on Consumer Data Right

On December 21, 2018, the Australian government published a draft privacy impact assessment on the Consumer Data Right (CDR), in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles (APP) Code 2017 and based on the Treasury Laws Amendment (Consumer Data Right) Bill 2018.

In 2017, the government announced the introduction of an open banking regime in Australia. The Treasury commissioned an independent review, which made 50 recommendations with regard to the legal regulatory arrangements for the economy-wide CDR and banking data. Following the recommendations, the government announced its commitment to implement open banking and the CDR in line with the recommendations of the review.
