Further EU Intervention on Cross-Border Payments ‘Not Welcome’

Several industry bodies have requested the European Commission not intervene further in the EU-wide payments market, after the authority promised “further examination” of cross-border financial services.

The commission published an industry discussion paper in December last year, outlining plans to identify and eliminate barriers to cross-border financial services and “find a system that works for consumers across the EU”.
