A New Hampshire federal court's ruling that the Wire Act applies only to electronic sports gambling should be a significant reassurance to payment processors and providers operating in other types of online wagering, such as casino-style gaming and state lotteries, experts note.
This week's decision by U.S. District Court Judge Paul Barbadoro essentially re-instituted an interpretation of the federal Wire Act that limited its scope to prohibiting only sports bets from being made across state lines — allowing other types of online wagering to take place on an interstate basis.
