The UK gambling regulator has said it is considering restricting or banning the use of e-wallets to pay for online betting, as it confirmed it would introduce curbs on gambling by credit card.
After a call for evidence earlier this year, the Gambling Commission announced on Wednesday that it plans either to prohibit or restrict the use of credit cards for online and land-based gambling, and launched a consultation on which path it should take.
But the regulator said any clampdown could easily be circumvented by gamblers simply using credit cards to top up digital payment wallets, which are a popular payment method among online gamblers.
