Senior European officials are concerned that some banks appear not to be developing dedicated interfaces for third-party access under the revised Payment Services Directive (PSD2).

Although the directive and its supporting regulatory technical standards (RTS) on security outline requirements for banks that decide to develop interfaces — typically an application programming interface (API) — they are not obliged to do so.
