Payoneer has refuted suggestions it was allowing Airbnb users to circumvent tax rules, after French authorities pushed the online rental platform to stop facilitating payments made via its prepaid cards.
The Ministry of Finance announced this week that officials held a meeting with Emmanuel Marill, country director of private rental platform Airbnb, in which he vowed to stop hosts from receiving payments via e-money institution Payoneer. It said the decision was intended “to avoid any risk of tax evasion via the use of prepaid cards offered by Airbnb to its hosts”.
