Norwegian regulators are claiming success in their efforts to block payments to unlicensed online gambling companies, with three of the top five payments processors confirming that they have stopped processing transactions from foreign operators.
Transactions from the three payment providers — Worldpay, Earthport and Inpay — represented about 65 percent of all Norwegian transactions in January and February, according to the Norwegian Gaming Authority (Lotteritilsynet/NGA).
“We are very pleased that the payment processors understand that [transacting Norwegian gambling payments] is a violation of Norwegian law, and have taken steps to stop this,” said the NGA’s deputy director general Linda Vøllestad Westbye.
