Mastercard has announced that the card details of a number of customers of its Priceless Specials programme were leaked and published online, with Belgian and German data protection regulators now looking into the case.
The Hesse Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (HBDI), the data protection authority for the German state of Hesse, revealed last week it had been notified by Mastercard of a data breach affecting customers of the loyalty scheme.
The announcement was followed by a similar statement from the Belgian Data Protection Authority (DPA), which stated that it understood the card details had been available online “for a certain period of time”.
