Mastercard has joined retail groups across Europe in calling for a harmonised approach to the introduction of strong authentication, as authorities piece together strategies for phasing in the new requirements.
The card network finalised a “European roadmap” this week, setting out a proposed timeline that would give issuers, acquirers and merchants an additional 18 months to comply fully with incoming EU-wide security rules for online card payments.
