Indian Government Agrees To Revisit Data Localisation Rules

Indian officials have agreed to reconsider controversial rules that payments-related data can only be stored within the country, after businesses restated their opposition in a recent government meeting.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced on Tuesday that it would take into consideration concerns from the country’s technology and e-commerce sectors over the rules, which were announced in April 2018 and were immediately subject to an industry backlash.
