Despite substantial work from two top EU regulators on crypto-assets, legal experts believe the likelihood of a new, all-encompassing legal framework for the technology is low.

The European Banking Authority (EBA) and the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) each published reports on January 9 assessing the regulatory environment around cryptocurrencies across the EU, concluding that the European Commission should consider making further reforms.
