EMVCo Standards Stifled Competition To Visa And Mastercard, Study Claims

A consortium of U.S. retail associations and debit networks have accused Visa and Mastercard of using EMVCo standards as a vehicle for restricting competition and protecting revenue despite regulatory intervention.

The Secure Payments Partnership made the claims based on an “investigative white paper” it commissioned. The paper was produced by the Retail Payments Global Consulting Group, a merchant-focused consultancy firm based near Seattle and founded by Amazon’s former head of payments.
