EBA Clarifies Strong Authentication Rules After Industry Confusion

The EU’s top banking and payments regulator has responded to confusion over impending strong authentication rules for contactless card transactions, whitelisting and exemptions based on fraud rates.

The European Banking Authority (EBA) published an opinion yesterday on several aspects of the incoming regulatory technical standards on authentication, which take effect in September next year and supplement the revised Payment Services Directive (PSD2).
