Authorities Eye QR Code Reforms To Unlock Asian Payments Harmony

Connectivity between QR code payment systems is emerging as the chief conduit of payments integration in southeast Asia after finance ministers and central bank chiefs from ten countries agreed to study interoperability across the region.

A meeting of ministers and regulators from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Thailand on April 5  “welcome[d] the initiative to explore the feasibility of interoperable QR codes to promote the use of innovative retail payment instruments” across member states, an end-of-summit communique said.
